DÍLI, 23 september, 2020 (TATOLI) – The government has proposed to the President to a issue sixth period for the state of emergency during the executive council meeting today.
A fifth period of state emergency was issued by the president in the 5th of September at 00:00 prior to October 4, 2020 at 23:59.
“the government requests on the state of emergency due to the fact that the worrying evolution of the epidemiological situation and the proliferation of recorded cases of COVID-19 contagion, both regionally and globally, and to avoid and neutralize the risks of the spread of SARS-Cov-2, thus protecting the public health and responsiveness of the National Health System” President for Council of Minister Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães said.
According to Mr Magalhães, the measure aims to protect public health and ensure the health system in Timor-Leste doesn’t get overwhelmed.
He also revealed that the Government proposes the declaration of the state of emergency, the suspension or restriction of rights, in particular for international circulation.
In spite there are 27 people have contracted the virus so far, just 6.718 people have been tested and 6.531 are negatives to covid-19, total people in quarantine are 1,218 while 4.228 people have completed their mandatory quarantine with zero reported deaths associated with the outbreak in Timor-Leste.
