DILI, 25 September 2020 (TATOLI)– President Republic of Timor-Leste, Francisco Guterres Lu Olo, speech to the U.N General Assembly on Friday said Timor-Leste believes that the Paris Agreement on Climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals embodies unavoidable means and issues on the road to construction of Timor-Leste.

President said, the disrespect for nature has caused climate change with a negative impact on humanity. thus, Family farming, the rational and planned use of natural resources, the fight against pollution and smart policies to protect respected in order for life to be possible on the planet.

“I develop in my country the program called” One Citizen, one Tree” which is progressively being implemented.,” president said.

For this program the President annually awards a prize of “Sérgio Vieira de Mello” to a citizens and communities who contributes to this program.

In 2019, the award was awarded to the civil society organization that re-flowered affected areas of mangroves.

The country also has adopted a recycling policy to reduce a plastic waste pollution.

“We already have a small processing and treatment unit of plastic bottles with a view to producing relevant application material (brick for the construction of homes and chairs for home use),” Mr. Lu Olo said.
