Lú Olo: International conflict and disputes must be settled Over negotiation and dialogue

DILI, 25 september 2020 (TATOLI)- President Lu Olo spoke at 75th United Nations General Assembly, delivering a message convincing the countries to resolve the issue of international conflict and disputes through negotiation and dialogue.

Mr. Lú Olo, remark is in a concerned with the recent increase in tension over the maritime dispute in the South Sea of China.Com pride.

“I say that we were the first country to use the mechanism of compulsory conciliation, advocated by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. We call on all parties involved to resolve their differences through dialogue and negotiations in order to achieve a peaceful solution.” President Lu Olo said.

During the speech, the Timorese President Lu Olo highlighted on the important of how Timor-Leste was convinced that international conflicts and disputes must be resolved through negotiation and dialogue.

“As an internationally recognized sovereign state, we are making our contribution to a needy UN.  One of our distinguished citizens, the former President, José Ramos-Horta, chaired the High-Level Panel for Peace Keeping Operations. The panel aimed to enhance the effectiveness of peace operations.”

“Also, as an active member of the United Nations, we have made our contribution to strengthening reflection on the Sustainable Development Goals. Our own experience pointed to the need for states to have strong institutions capable of meeting the challenges and threats of modern times,”

Mr. President also footnote the reconciliation process goes on between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.

The Indonesian invasion and occupation resulted in a protracted conflict that seemed unresolved.
