“This disease has affected the entire world, Kmanek Supermarket has now decided to suspend 47 of its workers from their Job.
Now there are only 15 of us remaining,” Julião dos Santos said.

According to Julião, the supermarket income before the pandemic was $7000 to $8000 per day, compare this with the situation now the income is only $1000.

Julião added Even if they didn’t lose a job, many workers have had to reduce their hours or take a pay cut due to the economic fallout from the pandemic.

“The salary for the Kmanek Workers was $200, and the supervisor is $310, but now we receive a new contract, and the salary is $150 to all levels,” he said.

Following this situation, Mr Santos asks the government to do an immediate intervention, to normalise the economic activities.

“I wish the State would coordinate with the owners of these companies to help reinforce the economic entities, to decide to improve the resilience of their supply chain and to increase the essential items because we are now under a dire situation. We can only wait for the owner to make the choice, and If the owner decides to close the supermarket, we will all lose our job,” he said.
