DILI, 03 november 2020 (TATOLI)— Timor-Leste’s Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, acknowledged woman’s day and reflected on the importance of the role of woman in the national development process.
“on behalf of the 8th Constitutional Government and myself, I would like to congratulate all the woman in Timor-Leste on this special day where the government has promised to set a people as the centre for development, thus will put the effort to involve the woman in the development process of our country,” Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak statement in the press release.
PM acknowledges today (03/011) as a special day to the entire woman as decided by the government of Timor-Leste since it is a coincidence with the day of her Maria Tapó, who was also a Timorese woman who was brave to stand with the other heroes to fight against tourist occupations during 24 years.
The Government, along with the Secretary of Gender and Equality (SGE), are working together with the organisation of woman to include women in the national development process for them not to feel left behind.
SGE has to prioritise four programs that will be reaching the Objective of Sustainable Development such as the rapprochement for the integrated gender, prevention of violence according to the gender, strengthen woman’s economy and strengthen woman in the political life.
SGE has also conducted the Civic education about gender perspectives in the general election and encourage woman to candidate themselves as the head of the villages.
