Head of ANC, João Olívio Freitas resumes duties after facing the trial

DILI, January 11, 2020 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Transport and Communications (MTC), José Agustinho da Silva, has authorized the President of the National Communications Authority (ANC), João Olívio Freitas, to resume his duties, while waiting for the decision from the Court.  

“Last year, the President for the ANC had to face the trial due to a case associated with illegal internet provision. His trial is under the Court process, after applying the term of identity and residence (TIR),” Minister José Agustinho da Silva told Tatoli after the Council Meeting.

Mr Silva added that the ANC president Freitas has delivered his annual leave letter in order to be able to enjoy his vacation until the 7th of January, after the legal decision from the court” Silva said.

He also stressed that the ANC President resumed his work on January 8th.

“Since there is no final judgment from the court on this case, the President of the ANC will maintain his duties at his office to ensure the normal functioning of the institution, and the work cannot be stopped, despite the fact that it is up to the court to make the final judgment on the outcome of the case,” he concluded.

it is recalled that João Oliveira Freitas was arrested by the PICI on the 26 of November and accused with crimes of computer fraud and tax fraud, in connection with a case of illegal internet calls from the Telcom Operator Telemor and the Computer Elite Company.

The Public Prosecution office accuses the suspect as Computer fraud Crime and Tax fraud, that have caused the State losses since the illegal satellite connection started in 2012.
