DILI, 18 january 2020 (TATOLI)- European Union ( EU) has provided USD 2.4 million to support Timor-Leste Government strengthening its capacity to mitigate the health impact of COVID-19 and to addressed other possible emergencies in Timor-Leste.
According to the document access by TATOLI, the Support in response to covid-19 pandemic has been developed based on the Timor-Leste National Strategic Preparedness and Responds plan for covid-19 which was approved in March 2020.
The plan provides the specialized technical assistance for institutional building and human resource training, it is also supports the laboratory capacity, the effective management of cases, the provision and distribution of diagnostics equipment’s and medicines.
The Ambassador of European Union, Andrew Jacob’s highlighted in statement access by TATOLI, Jacob extends his congratulation to the Government of Timor-Leste and specially the Ministry of Health for carrying out an excellent job in dealing with covid-19 pandemic which is in many ways an example to the world, managing to limit the spread of the disease and avoiding fatalities.
“This is a result of strong political commitment and effective coordination collaboration among different authorities, Ministries and development partners,”Mr Jacob said.
“We all know that battle against covid-19 is far from over and we shall need to count on vaccine to help us win,” said.
Jacob underlines the statement from the EU High Representative/Vice President Josep Borrel who said “Life will only return to normal if we get the whole world vaccinated rapidly. No one really safe until everybody is safe,” with regards to this, the European Scientist have been at the forefront of the development of the vaccine and will continue to work at multilateral level to ensure the fair access to it.
Thus the EU is committed to help ensure that everyone who needs the covid-19 vaccine has access to it, anywhere in the world.
But the addressing the covid-19 crisis should not distract us from the fight against malnutrition, the needs to address the chronicle health condition, and support for gender equality.
For the EU gender equality it is not only a matter of human rights. it is the foundation of democratic society and good governance, and the cornerstone of the inclusive sustainable development.
In Spite the launch of the new partnerships and the supports was between the Ministry of Health, EU and the WHO is held at the Ministry of Health office, Caicoli Dili.
