MTC introduces amendment to regulates the telecommunication networks in Timor-Leste

DILI 27 january 2021 (TATOLI)- Minister of Transport and Communication, José Agustinho da Silva introduced the proposal of amendment for the Regulation of telecommunications sector as well as the regulation for administrative sector to the Council of Minister.

“The proposal aims to modify certain solutions that were previously established in addition to analyzing the detail of technical and legal concepts,”  Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidélis Magalhães, said at the Government Palace.

Magalhães said the government intended not only to detail the operation and exclusion that represent prohibit a conduct, but also to clarify the respective administrative sanctions.

It is recall that on November 27, 2020 the MTC Minister, José Agostinho da Silva meet with the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak to introduce the plan for the creation of a new decree law draft to control the external telecommunication network.

According to Minister Silva, the law will apply to the agencies and companies that responsible for operating the internet service provider (ISP) in Timor-Leste.

“When the decree-law draft is approved the Government will be able to control the illegal acts committed by the companies”, he said

Thus he promised that during his mandate, he will make the effort to speed up the procedures with a view to obtain the legal instrument.
