COVID-19 suspends the construction of Nicolau Lobato International Airpot

DILI, 03 february 2021 (TATOLI)– Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, Kinefuchi Masami said on Wednesday, that the covid-19 pandemic has obstruct the construction of Nicolau Lobato, International Airport Dili.

Ambassador Masami added that, the support provided by the Government of Japan relatively to construct the International Airport of Nicolau Lobato and the process is progressively.

“In the Previous year, The Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak request for the revision of  proposal, thus Japan has agreed with the adjustment, and the adjustment almost complete despite of covid-19” Ambassador KINEFUCHI said after meeting with the PN.

He said there is no decision about the amount of budget will allocate for the Airport.

Ambassador Masami also updated the actual information about the process of rehabilitation to the President of Paliament Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres during the meeting.

It is recall that, The Minister of Transport and Communication José Agustino da Silva previously said the fund for the construction was taken from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with the total amount of $100 million while $30 million coming from the government, and the total of the budget is $130 million, despite the total budget will need for the construction of Airport is $480 millon.

Hence Minister José Agustinho had a previous discuss with the Ambassador of Japan to further the support to $44 million.
