DILI, 5 march 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Finance (MF) and the Central Bank of Timor-Leste (BCTL) modernized the payment platform for the four payments taxes through the P24 system.
The four types of taxes including income tax, services, wages and the withholding tax.
BCTL Governor Abraão de Vasconcelos said the introduction of the payment will benefits the entire banking system in the country.

“The Central Bank will continue to make its resources available to support the Government in any initiative and that we can provide more efficient services, particularly to our population in rural areas,” The BCTL governor, Vanconcelos said at launching of the payments system at MF hall, Aitarak Laran Dili.
According to Mr Vasconcelos, the system also allows the tax payers to pay these four taxes more effectively.
The Minister of Finance, Rui Augusto Gomes, said that the Government maintains its commitment to continue the policy of fiscal reform initiated in the Fifth Constitutional Government.
“The reform is not limited to the fiscal area. It also includes the area of public finance and management”, Gomes said.

He added that the Government is committed to implementing three measures in the tax reforms areas. The first concern is administrative reform, second intends to modernize the administration system of the Tax Authority through the use of the updated computer system. The third and final measure aims to facilitate the efficient allocation of resources by taxpayers, thus encouraging compliance with the law and contributing to the increase in non-oil revenues.
“The launch of tax payments via P24 is a mechanism to enable taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations over the internet. Taxpayers do not need to queue at commercial banks to pay their taxes,” he said.
The online payment platform was designed by a Timorese programmer from the Ministry of Finance Tax Authority, Ponciano Vieira.
With this platform, taxpayers have more time to carry out their business activities and can proceed with the transaction anywhere where there is an ATM with the P24 electronic system.
“The payment of taxes via P24 happens for the first time in the history of the Tax Authority of Timor-Leste”, he said.
