Government approves major disaster declaration for the recent flooding in Timor-Leste

DILI, april 8, 2021 (TATOLI)– The Government’s Council of Minister approves the Major Disaster Declaration for the recent flooding in Timor-Leste for 30 days.

The President for the Council of Minsiter (PCM), Fidelis Magalhães said, Government approved this declaration to deal with the natural calamity that had happened recently in Timor-Leste caused by the Tropical Cyclone Seroja.

“Despite there are several municipalities have also been experienced the disasters but are different from Dili,” Magalhães said.

therefore, the government has formed a technical working group that will be responsible for identifying the infrastructure and public collective equipment that get destroyed during the disaster as well as preparing the proposal for the rehabilitation.

It is also showing in the government resolution that, government strictly ban the community to occupy a place or build houses near the rivers.

Following the reports from SEPS, The number of people killed in the natural disaster rose to 42 on Wednesday  and 10.000 people lost their houses.
