DILI, 16 April 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Government distributes emergency aid to the victims of a natural disaster within five municipalities.
“We have received permission from CIGC to transport relief goods to disaster victims in the five municipalities,” Joaquim Gusmao said.
Emergency relief items are rice, noodles, cooking oil, sardine fish, milk, biscuits, and other kitchen items.
According to reports from the Viquque district, there were 300 families affected by natural disasters, in Liquica authority recorded 100 families, Ermera 350 families, Manatuto 350, and Aileu 500.
In January this year, the Department of National Logistics provided 10 tonnes of rice to the Secretary of State for Civil Protection (SEPS) to be distributed to victims of natural disasters.
“The stock is sufficient to respond to victims affected by the disasters,” Joaquim Gusmão said.
According to the official record from SEPS and the Ministry of State and Administration (MAE), 25,000 families were affected by flash floods and landslides, and 4,546 houses were washed away by the water.
As of 11 April, the government has assisted 1,396 families and will continue until 18 April.
In the public infrastructure sector, 22 roads and 11 bridges were destroyed.
Authority also recorded 11.104 people were in the evacuation centers out of 8,548 families with 35 people died during natural disasters and 10 people have not been found.
It is recalled that the government also has transported the emergency support to Oé-Cusse before other municipalities.
