DILI, may 18, 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste will not celebrate its 19th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence, on May 20 As the Government enforced lock-downs to address the spread of COVID-19.
The Deputy Minister of State Administration, Lino Torrezão, informed Tatoli at his office, Colmera Dili.
“We canceled the celebration for the 19th Anniversary of Restoration of Independence because with the Government implementation of Isolation Zone restriction, it does not allow people to gather and The President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, has decided to cancel the celebration ”, Torrezão told Tatoli, today at Colmera, Díli.
Mr. Torrezão said the State and the Government have decided to cancel the celebration because there will be a possible increase in the number of covid-19 infections through the gathering of many people.
“Thus, on May 20, the celebration will be doing virtually by the Head of State,” he said.
Lino Torrezão added that the members of the National Flag Lifting Corps, coming from the municipalities and currently concentrated in Dili for the preparation of the ceremony, will return to everyone’s municipality.
The members have taken the covid-19 tests and six of them were positive with covid-19, currently under the treatment at Golgota Isolation Center.
