DILI, may 18, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Arvind Mathur, recommended to the Government of Timor-Leste to carry out sentinel activities to prevent covid-19.

“I recommend conducting sentinel activities. When an infected person is in a place, then contact should be screened where the infection was detected”, said Arvind Mathur, after the end of the meeting with the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, at Farol, Dili.

Mr. Mathur said, he met with the Head of Government to address the response to covid-19 in Timor-Leste and the increase in the number of cases.

“We discussed the challenges we face so that we can find a solution together with the Government. Another objective of this meeting was to analyze the vaccination process implemented in Dili and the rest of the municipalities”, he said.

Following the reports from the team of pillar III of the Ministry of Health (MoH), 43 thousand people have been receiving the vaccination against covid-19, until May 16.

The country currently has 2,173 active infections, 4,589 confirmed cases and ten deaths recorded since the outbreak began in this country.
