WHO provides 10 tonnes of emergency supports to the Ministry of Health

DILI, 19 may 2021 (TATOLI)— The World Health Organization (WHO) provides 10 tonnes of emergency support to the Ministry of Health (MoH) to help the country deal with COVID-19. 

During the delivery ceremony, The Representative of the WHO to Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur, said the support offered by the WHO as a working continuation between the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health and the WHO in response to COVID-19. 

 “This support will be useful for the continuation of working in the battle against covid-19 that has been facing by Timor-Leste,” Arvin Mathur told the journalists at the SAMES, Kampung Alor Dili. 

The 10 tonnes of WHO’s emergency support including Personal Protection Equipment, such as masks, gloves, and other health types of equipment.

There is also another essential staff including reagents for covid-19 tests that cost around $1 million. 

Timor-Leste Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo, thanked the WHO for the continuous support and belief that this support will ease the front line to do their work in the fight against COVID-19 in Timor-Leste. 

“These equipment are associated with the problems in our country, including recent inundation and covid-19, thus our partner WHO continues to provide these supports to help us during this situation,” Ms. Belo said. 

It is recalled that, on April 26, 2021, the WHO had transported 50 items of Protective Equipment to the Ministry of Health along with other emergency supports with 1.325 tonnes, shipped by My Jet Airlines.
