DILI, 08 June 2021 (TATOLI) – Child Fund has established a program “Library for all” to provide reading and writing skills to children and to support children in rural areas to access the books for the learning activity.
This program is offered by Child Fund particularly for the children affected by natural calamity and the covid-19 pandemic.
The Manager of Child Fund, Aurelio da Costa said, before the program was implemented, the Child Fund has identified that children in Timor-Leste still required more books for their learning process. thus Child Fund has the initiative to establish this program specifically to answer to all of these issues.
“The program will benefit the children in Timor-Leste since the country is under the covid-19 restriction, thus this program is to provide an opportunity for children, parents, and relatives to be freely accessible for any kind of books, including Spark Kit, Library Application, A3 books, offline functional books, child secure application and Illumination books, 131 digital books that children can access on the tablet as well as science and illustration books,” Mr. Aurelio da Costa told Tatoli at his office.
According to Mr da Costa, Child Fund has organized three-time writing workshop for their young Timorese people who has the ability for writing skill to develop their articles for the readers, adding that Most of the 100 Tetum books were written by Timorese people and ready for the children to read.
Mr da Costa added that this program has been implemented in Manatuto municipality and established four basic schools which are located in Kairui, Life, Beboro, Hatu Meta, while the two other reading centers are in Obrato Reading center and Laklo reading Center.
This program has been benefited 506 children covered in four schools and two reading centers. This is also a pilot project for basic school students to access books for reading.
This program is established in 2019 through the cooperation between the Child Fund and the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport to have the legality of this program.
Library For All program is a nonprofit project which was established by Mrs. Rebecca McDonal and other CEO members. This program is currently implemented in nine countries around the world.
