DILI, 08 june 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Timor-Leste, Andrew Jacob, and the Representative of the United State Development Program, (UNDP) to Timor-Leste, Munkhtunya Altangerel handed over Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) equipment to the Commission of Anti-Corruption (CAC).

The representative of the EU, Jacob Andrew said the support of ICT equipment to CAC is aimed to strengthen the effective governance of the Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa and Timor-Leste that share a similar legislative framework.

The types of equipment are Twenty-two laptops, twenty-two multi-port adaptors, four screens, and two UPS, along with the Microsoft Office package.

“This equipment will be used for the institution to establish various new IT solutions to prevent and curb corruption and ensure continuity of its core functions,” Ambassador Jacob said to Tatoli Agency, at CAC office, at Farol, this Tuesday.

The Commissioner of the Commission of Anti-Corruption, Sergio Hornai thanked for the support provided by the European Union and United Nation Development program, saying that the ICT equipment items will help CAC to be effective in working to prevent corruption in Timor-Leste.

CAC considered the assistance from the development program to ensure Anti-Corruption Strategy and outreach campaigns to prevent corruption, along with the ICT support.

“The initiative is part of the institutional development capacity and COVID-19 response within the EU-UNDP Project for speaking Portuguese countryThe project aims to strengthen the effective governance of the Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa and Timor-Leste that share a similar legislative framework.” Mr. Jacob said.

CAC is a relatively new institution in Timor-Leste that was established in 2010 and faces an increasing role in monitoring the state resources. Along with other oversight institutions, the CAC’s role in preventing and combating corruption has been highlighted since the adoption of the Anti-Corruption Law in 2020.

The handing over ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union, Andre Jacob, Resident Representative UNDP, Munkhtunya Altangerel, The Commissioner of Anti-Corruption, Sergio Hornai, and the Directors from CAC.
