International diplomat propose the government to reactivate the Commercial flight operation

DILI, 11 june 2021 (TATOLI)- The Director of the Center Integrated Management of Crises (CIGC)’ Brigadier General João Miranda Aluc Descartes said diplomatic officials from other countries in Timor-Leste proposed international flights to improve the country’s economy.

The Brigadier General explained that several diplomats or ambassadors from the United States, New Zealand, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the European Union suggested that international flights must be allowed since Timor-Leste has started the second dose of the vaccination process so that it can help the country’s economy.

“They have the availability to help us, in any time we need but they ask the government reactivate the airport for the commercial flights could do the operations normally, as they have also been concerned about the domestic economy which continues to fall, ” Brigadier Disaster told reporters at Dili Convention Center(CCD) on Friday.

He added that these are the great concerned but the central government, through the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Timor-Leste, have the right to make a decision.

The United States Ambassador, Charles Kevin Blackstone also emphasized that the main focus at this time is potential support for flight charters so that the development of the humanitarian system and diplomatic movement can work.

“We are also clarifying the application of the rules regarding travel for individuals who are fully vaccinated,” said Blackstone.

The Ambassador of Europe Union Andrew Jacobs said the TL government has already successfully carried out an anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign and for that what is being discussed is how to carry out circulation after the vaccine.

“We talked about international flight regulations, General Aluc has explained the situation and flight restrictions, I see the number of COVID-19 cases in Dili has decreased and of course I hope to see other positive things that Will come soon,” Mr. Jacob said.
