over five countries are committed to helping Timor-Leste in the fight against covid-19 and natural disaster

DILI, 11 june 2021 (TATOLI)- Over five countries are committed to working together with Timor-Leste in the fight against covid-19 and the Natural disaster that happened on April 4, 2021.

These countries are The United States of America (USA), Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and the European Union (EU).

The Representatives of these countries, to Timor-Leste, committed during the meeting with the Director of the CIGC, João Miranda Aluc Descartes at the CIGC, Mercado Lama, Caicoli on Friday.

The ambassador of the European Union, Andrew Jacobs said, UE has assisted the CIGC’s since 2020 because the COVID-19 pandemic is a global problem that must be fought together.

“EU has supported the CIGC’s since March 2020, EU has always been excited to work with the CIGC’s with a big responsibility in the context of fighting to COVID-19. “My friends and I are committed to continuing to help Timor-Leste, to fight COVID-19 and together to help the victims of the flood happened on 04 April,” Andrew told reporters at Dili Convention Center, Mercado Lama

He explained despite his country also faces COVID -19 but the most important is to work together to combat COVID -19 in Timor-Leste because the COVID -19 pandemic is a global pandemic that needs to be overcome together.

The USA Ambassador, Kevin Blackstone also said, the US Government will continue to support Timor-Leste, and the US Government has been assisting Timor-Leste by providing funds to help victims of the post-flood and COVID -19 pandemic in Timor-Leste.

“I want to say that the US will continue to help Timor-Leste to fight COVID-19 and also have the initiative to help Timor-Leste’s government to overcome the flood situation which happened on 04 April ago, to help Timor-Leste economy recovery,” said Blackstone.

These international partners also advise and give ideas to the CIGC regarding new challenges that will be faced in the future because with vaccines the situation will change.

Director of CIGC’s, João Miranda Aluc Descartes, in this meeting, on behalf of the Timor-Leste government thanked the partners and confirmed all international Aids is still not enough to cover all areas in TL because of that continue to ask all partner to continue to assist Timor-Leste to overcome this situation.
