COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste registers 83 new cases, 42 recoveries and active cases at 870

DILI, 02 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, records 83 new cases of COVID-19, with 42 recoveries, and the active cases were 870.

Of the new cases, 63 cases were detected in capital Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 11 in Baucau, 3 in Bobonaro, and 2 each in Covalima, RAEOA, and Viqueque.

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said that of the 83 new cases, only 4.8 percent were symptomatic.

He said the majority of today’s cases were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 4 elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 50 men and 33 women.

Araujo informed that 16 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where 3 patients were in critical condition.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 836 PCR tests, including 65 sentinel surveillance tests, 2 through contact tracing, 26 via random screening, 704 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 2 for the international travel authorization, and 37 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 4.9 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 10.6, Baucau 7.4, and Ermera 6.3.

The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus in the country despite the ICGC’s records showing a slight drop in cases over the past week in the capital Dili and some municipalities.

There has been a total of 9.361 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 8.467 recoveries, active cases were 870 and 24 deaths, according to data of the CIGC.
