DILI, 03 june 2021 (TATOLI) – Secretary of State for Cooperatives (SECOOP) and the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL) signed an agreement to establish ‘Cooperative Management Department’ at UNTL before the commence of the next university academic year.
Speaking at the commemoration of the International Day of Cooperatives, the Secretary of State for Cooperatives (SECOOP), Elizário Ferreira informed that the establishment of the department at UNTL is to produce high-quality human resources on cooperatives to develop Timor-Leste’s cooperative sector.
“This Cooperative Management Department will produce high-quality human resources to ensure the stability of sustainability institutional and financial of the cooperatives in Timor-Leste,” Ferreira made the comments after the commemoration of the International Day of Cooperatives, in Dili, today.
Ferreira said in the near future, the technical team of the two parties would discuss the preparation for the establishment of the department, including the curriculum, teaching methods, lecturers, and other relevant resources.
In addition, the Rector of UNTL, João Soares Martins said that the Cooperative Management Department was a good department, which will help the economy of the country, saying to succeed in the establishment of the department, both parties are committed to supporting each other.
“To establish the department, at the moment, UNTL doesn’t have enough resources. So, we need support from SECOOP to establish the department,” Martins said.
He said UNTL could support developing the cooperative sector in Timor-Leste through establishing the department: “UNTL and SECOOP need to prepare resources together. So, we wouldn’t repeat the same thing as the department of sports, which had been halted.
