DILI, 09 june 2021 (TATOLI) – The preparation of the Social Communication and International Relations Department of the Faculty of Social Science and Politics (FASPOL) of the public education establishment, National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL) reached 75 percent.

“Both departments had sent documents to the National Agency for Academic Assessment and Accreditation (ANAAA) as a pretest, which means if there is any incomplete information or data, then ANAAA will provide feedback or input for both departments to complete. So, both departments have received feedback from ANAAA and are working on completing those documents,” the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Politics, Camilo X. Almeida told TATOLI at the FASPOL campus, today.

Almeida said next week would be the last day to submit the revised documents to ANAAA in two templates — word and excel.

He said apart from human resource management, curriculum, facility, teaching and learning, recruitment of students, department policies, policies for inter-institutional coordination, rules and regulations for students, monitoring of graduates, new modes of approaching the link with the community, social responsibility and research would be assessed in the next University’s program accreditation.

At the same place, the Head Department of Social Communication, Marcelino Magno informed that Social Communication had been preparing its document for two years now: “We gather the documents of the department, as well as documents of the alumni, and documents of inter-institutional coordination.”

“On behalf of the Social Communication Department, we thank ANAAA for helping us a lot with the preparation of the documents. We are asked to prepare two types of documents, including word and excel.  So, we sent the word document to ANAAA for a pre-evaluation assessment and we have received the feedback and recommendations. Now, we are preparing the excel document to be submitted for another pre-evaluation assessment. So, I think, we will be able to submit the final revision of both documents next week,” Magno said.

So far, the Social Communication department has produced 133 graduates and all are employed in many public and private institutions. The department has 14 full-time lecturers with all having a master’s degree: “We also have three international lecturers of Australian Volunteers International (AVI). Through UNESCO, we also have some lecturers from Gadjah Mada University, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, and Indonesian Press Council,” Magno said.

Magno said to scale up the quality of the department, more efforts are needed to improve the laboratories of the department—writing laboratory, radio, and multimedia laboratory.

In addition, the Head Department of International Relations (RI), Bernardo Idalina Leto said that RI was working on completing its documents including both templates – word and excel.

“Regarding our preparation, there are certain things that we have no authority to talk about. For instance, the library, and other related facilities are not part of our responsibility and we only give the recommendations to the authorities of the University,” said Leto.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all lecturers are not presented at campus regularly. But, we need to accelerate our preparation so that RI could pass in the upcoming University Program Accreditation,” said Leto.

The International Department has 12 lecturers; most of them have at least a master’s degree, including two candidates of Ph.D. and one Ph.D. lecturer: “Currently we have 955 active students and 62 graduates.”
