DILI, 13 july 2021 ( TATOLI) – The Ambassador of Timor-Leste to New Zealand has been sworn in by the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Francisco Guterres ” Lu-Olo, at the Aitarak-Laran, Presidential palace, in Dili, on this tuesday.

After being sworn in, the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to New Zealand, Felicidade Guterres, told reporters TATOLI News Agency in the President’s Office, Aitarak-Laran, that New Zealand is a very important partner for Timor-Leste because New Zealand has helped Timor-Leste since 1999 until now.

“I am very proud that the President of the Republic trusted me through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, I am also proud that New Zealand has been a harmonious partner so far,” said Guterres.

Guterres explained that since 1999 New Zealand has sent a Peacekeeping Force and has also developed the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) through the Community Police and developed cooperation in the defense sector and has also assisted Timor-Leste on deporting our students in China, which at that time was hit by COVID-19.

New Zealand has also assisted Timor-Leste in the health sector, such as handling the COVID-19 surge in Timor-Leste by sending 24.000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine a few months ago.

In the field of education, New Zealand also provides scholarships to Timorese students. Therefore, this cooperation continues to be maintained and improved.

“The new mission that I will do in New Zealand is to explore animal husbandry, tourism and other fields that I will explore in New Zealand,” she said.

Prior to carry out his duties, She will first meet with the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for briefing at the end of this month before carrying out her mission as the new Ambassador to New Zealand.

in the same place Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Julio da Silva appealed to diplomats who had been appointed by the President of the Republic as the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to New Zealand, the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Brunei Darussalam, the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the United Nations and representatives of Timor-Leste for Climate Change to carry out state duties for three years.

“Demonstrate good performance during the term of office, prioritizing the foreign policy of Timor-Leste to establish more harmonious bilateral relations in the future,” said Silva.
