DILI, 13 June 2026 (TATOLI) — The Government of Timor-Leste on Friday extended its congratulations to the Government and people of the Philippines as the Southeast Asian nation marked its Independence Day on June 12.

The Philippines proclaimed its independence on June 12, 1898, a milestone that continues to hold deep national significance for the Filipino people.

In a statement, the Government of Timor-Leste highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries, underscoring their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability and sustainable development across Southeast Asia.

Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Government Spokesperson Agio Pereira said Timor-Leste joins the celebrations and reaffirms its strong ties with the Philippines.

Pereira also expressed solidarity with communities affected by the recent earthquake that struck parts of the Philippines, noting that recovery efforts remain ongoing in several areas.

“At a time when various communities continue to recover from the aftermath of the recent earthquake that struck the country, we also extend our solidarity to the Filipino people.

“We wish the Philippines prosperity and well-being and reiterate our commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship between our countries,” concluded Pereira.

Timor-Leste and the Philippines maintain close diplomatic relations and continue to cooperate on regional initiatives aimed at advancing economic development, security and regional integration within Southeast Asia.
