UN encourages Timor-Leste joint Food System Summit

DILI, 13 july 2021 (TATOLI) – The representative of the United Nation in Timor-Leste, Roy Trivedy encourages Timor- Leste to participate in the food system summit, which will be held in Rome in 2022.

The representative of the United Nation in Timor-Leste, Roy Trivedy said that food system submission is most important for all countries around the world to participate. This program will help all countries to ensure food security and increase the number of nutritious foods.

Many people around the world suffer from less food and nutrition. These programs of food systems provide the idea to help people to access nutrition foods.

“United Nations encourages Timor-Leste to participate in another food system summit which will be held in october, 2021 in Rome, Italy. Timor-Leste can take this opportunity to share the ideas and contribute for food security and nutrition on a global level,” the United Nation Representative, Roy Trivedy told TATOLI Agency in City 8 Manleuana, Haslaran, 13 july, this tuesday.

He added that to respond to this issue, Timor-Leste should be able to gain some experience on using technology to share information with the participants from other countries. The ideas to contribute to all food are safe to consume.

This program will help local farmers to increase local products in Timor-Leste. It supports the government of Timor-Leste to achieve the main goal to obtain zero hunger and malnutrition in 2025.

The technology is a point to help farmers increase their knowledge to access food prices in national and international markets and helps farmers to develop their products. It is also helping farmers to deeply understand the weather system, especially for meteorology information.

The United Nation has held food system submits on last September in New York last 2020 which participated by international leaders and discussed about the food security and nutrition issue in globally.

Mr. Trivedy revealed that Timor-Leste currently obtained 60% imported foods. For this reason Timor-Leste has a responsibility to increase local foods and reduce imported foods.

The UN is ensuring everyone around the world consumes safe foods and guarantees people are living a healthy life.

The United Nations fully supports the government of Timor-Leste through the food system submit program. It is the most important event to share knowledge for food security and nutritive food to relevant institutions. This event will expand to three other municipalities before the government’s committee will go to participate in an international food system submit in Italy, Rome next year.

This initiative is to collect more information about the food security, nutrition issue and can be shared with other countries in Rome next year.

The main goal for this program is to help farmers to grow better products and ensure food distribution works well. Everyone can access nutritious meals and respond for sustainability achievement in the country of Timor-Leste.
