DILI, 14 july 2021 (TATOLI) -Around 99 schools in Dili, including both primary and high schools, will resume their teaching and learning process that had been halted since the implementation of the lockdown, informed Deputy Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports (MEJD) Antonio Guterres.

Guterres informed that to mitigate the spread of the virus, the government decided to implement lockdown in capital Dili, and some municipalities, resulting in halting the learning and teaching activities of schools to curb the virus in the country.

“Tomorrow,  MEJD will announce the resumption of the teaching and learning process of the 99 schools. However, the normal school activities will start next week (19/07),” Guterres made the comments after the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Minister, at Government Palace, today.

Of the 107 schools that had been subjected to the assessment of the MEJD, 99 schools met the criteria recommended by the Ministry of Health to resume their teaching and learning process. These schools include public, private, and international schools, affirmed Guterres.

He said out of the 3.153 teachers in Dili, 1.498 had been fully vaccinated.

Guterres emphasizes that these schools need to obey the health protocols of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health to keep preventing and combating coronavirus at schools.
