Cuba plans to help with Abdala and Soberana 02 Vaccines to Timor-Leste

DILI, 15 july 2021 (TATOLI)- Consul & Third Secretary of Embassy of The Republic of Cuba to Timor-Leste Lic. José Ernesto Diaz Perez said that since a pandemic disease hit the world at the end of 2019, the Cuban government decided to authorize Cuban medical experts to make their own vaccines.

“Cuba has its own vaccines called Abdala and Soberana 02, both of these vaccines have been recognized by the Regulatory Authority of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices of the Republic of Cuba (CECMED) and will be presents to the World Health Organization (WHO) and have vaccinated many people in Cuba and Iran and now will be send to Venezuela, Argentina and several other Latin American countries,” said Perez at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, Farol, to Journalist of TATOLI New Agency on thursday.

Perez explained that it had been proven that the Abdala vaccine had an effectiveness of 92.28% and the Soberana 02 vaccine had a 91.2% effectiveness based on clinical trials conducted by Cuban laboratory experts.

“Therefore Cuba wants to produce 100 million doses of these vaccines, and vaccinate 70% of the Cuban people by August” said Perez.

Perez said Cuba wants to help vaccinate Abdala and Soberana 02 to Timor-Leste to vaccinate the people of Timor-Leste to prevent a surge of COVID-19 in Timor-Leste if the Timor-Leste government needs it.

“The Cuban State will sincerely help Timor-Leste in various fields if Timor-Leste needs it,” said Perez.

Until now the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba is waiting for an official request from the government but there has been no proposal from the government, said Perez.
