COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste records 52 new cases, 131 recoveries, one death and active cases at 810

DILI, 16 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports 52 new cases of COVID-19, with 131 recoveries, one death active cases were 810.

Of the new cases, 30 cases were detected in capital Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 11 in Baucau, four in Viqueque, three each in Bobonaro and Ermera, and one in Manatuto municipality.

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said that of the 52 new cases, 7.7 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 47 cases were between the ages of 12 and 59, including a child under 12 and five elderly persons over 60. These new cases were made up of 28 men and 24 women.

Araujo informed that 17 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where three patients were in critical condition.

He said the CIGC also today recorded another death from Covid-19 in the capital Dili.

Araujo informed that the deceased was a 56-year-old man from Becora village, in Dili Municipality. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on june 29 and subjected to intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center. He experienced a Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) and Hypertension without treatment for more than three months and died this morning, at around 08.50. am, local time.

Since yesterday, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 679 PCR tests, including 31 sentinel surveillance tests, 68 through contact tracing, 80 via random screening, 482 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, and 18 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 3.7 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 9.1, and Baucau 7.3.

The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO, saying it is important for everyone to keep combating the spread of the virus in the country by obeying public health and social measures. The country has been recording a relatively lower number of COVID-19 infections currently, in the capital Dili and some municipalities.

There has been a total of 10.049 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 9.213 recoveries, active cases were 810 and 26 deaths, according to data of the CIGC.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 245.791 (32.6%) had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  Of the number, around 49.277 (6.53%) have also received their second dose of the vaccine.
