COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste records 51 new cases, 52 recoveries and active cases at 809

DILI, 17 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports 51 new cases of COVID-19, with 52 recoveries, and the active cases were 809.

Of the new cases, 37 were detected in capital Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including six in Lautem, four in Viqueque, three in Baucau, and one in Covalima.

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said that of the 51 new cases, only 1.9 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 50 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including a child under 12. These new cases were made up of 26 men and 25 women.

Araújo informed that 15 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where two patients were in critical condition.

Since yesterday, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 810 PCR tests, including 71 sentinel surveillance tests, 33 through contact tracing, 140 via random screening, 445 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 41 for the international travel authorization and 80 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 3.6 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 8.6, Baucau 7.1 and Viqueque 2.5.

The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO, saying it is important for everyone to keep combating the spread of the virus in the country by obeying public health and social measures. The country has been recording a relatively lower number of COVID-19 infections currently, in the capital Dili and some municipalities.

There has been a total of 10.100 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 9.265 recoveries, active cases were 809 and 26 deaths, according to data of the CIGC.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 249.674 (33.1%) had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  Of the number, around 53.933 (7.14%) have also received their second dose of the vaccine.
