DILI, 24 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, records 56 new cases of COVID-19, with 57 recoveries, and the active cases were 725.
Of the new cases, only 14 cases were detected in capital Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 36 cases were identified in Ermera, five in Viqueque, and one in Aileu municipality.
The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said that of the 56 new cases, only 7.1 percent were symptomatic.
He said of today’s cases, 55 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including an elderly person over 60. These new cases are made up of 22 men and 34 women.
Araujo informed that 15 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where two patients were in critical condition.
In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 608 PCR tests, including seven sentinel surveillance tests, 211 through contact tracing, 59 via random screening, 307 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, and 24 in quarantines.
The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 2.6 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 5.4, Viqueque 5.6 and Ermera 4.5.
The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus in the country despite the ICGC’s records showing a slight drop in cases over the past week in the capital Dili and some municipalities.
There has been a total of 10.337 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 9.586 recoveries, active cases were 725 and 26 deaths, according to data of the Ministry of Health.
In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 266.622 (35.3%) had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Of the number, around 79.217 (10.0%) have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Delta Variant Cases
The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo informed that so far Timor-Leste had recorded four cases of COVID-19 Delta variant in the country, saying the four cases were detected on july 14.
“Of the 300 samples of the Covid-19 cases sent for urgent test in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, in Melbourne, Australia, indicated that four cases of Delta variant were detected.
Araujo said that the four patients entered Timor-Leste from Indonesia, on june 26, saying one had been fully recovered, while three others still remained isolated: “So far, we haven’t had any evidence of local transmission of the Delta Variant in the country.”
