DILI, July 29, 2021 (TATOLI)- The United Nations Women (UNW) provided $60,000 to the Secretariat of State for Civil Protection (SEPC) to conduct mediators training for the National Directorate of Community Conflict Prevention (DNPCC).
The fund is offered through the agreement signed by both Timor-Leste and the United Nations Women to ensure the welfare of the coordination for the prevention of conflicts at the community level.
The representative of UNW, Leonesia Tecla da Silva highlighted the two essential programs to be implemented by using the budget such as gender-sensitive mediation and the national plan 1325 of the UN resolution on women and peace and security.
These programs are based on United Nations Security Council resolution number 1325 as women peace and security.
“There are many cases to obtain mediation, approximation and resolution of conflicts” Leonesia Tecla da Silva, commented on the event in Caicoli Dili.
SEPC Joaquim Gusmão, said in his remarks, mediators need the training to gain knowledge, and through the capacity building program, women can solve some issues at the family and community level.
“We have 42 DNPCCC mediators, 21 are women in around Timor-Leste territory. This fund from UNW to provide train for those mediators composed on women and some of local authority to gain capacity and knowledge to solve the community issue,” he said.
