DILI, 02 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The United States Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Kevin Blackstone, announced he will step down from his position and return to United State for an urgent personal reason.
“Due to urgent personal circumstances, I will step down as Ambassador and return to the United States in early August. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Timor-Leste and to work alongside the dedicated, professional staff of the U.S. Mission to Timor-Leste,” Ambassador said in a statement released today by the US Embassy in Dili.
“Timorese hospitality has overwhelmed me, and I will cherish the many memories I have made during my time here. I will always remain deeply proud of the U.S. Mission’s work to strengthen the important and enduring partnership – and friendship – between the United States and Timor-Leste.” Mr. Blackstone added.
Ambassador Blackstone presented his credential to the President of Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo on March 19, 2021, at the Presidential Palace, Aitarak laran Dili.
During his mandate, Mr. Blackstone was able to establish good bilateral relations with Timor-Leste in supporting the Defense and Security and Support Timorese State in the fight against COVID-19.
Likewise, Mr. Blackston has successfully signed the Agreement with Timorese State for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Baucau Airport.
Ambassador Blackstone is very well known and active during his mission, he started his first mission in Timor-Leste by visiting all the State Institutions and other partners in the Country.
