DILI, 03 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The Spokesperson for the Association of Southeast Asia (ASEAN) and The Vice-Consul & Third Secretary of The Philippines Embassy to Timor Leste Atty. Laser Blitz B. Sumagaysay said the Representatives of the five ASEAN countries in Timor-Leste hosted an ASEAN Community Pantry to welcome ASEAN’s anniversary which will take place on August 8th.
“ASEAN was founded on 8 of August 1967 in Bangkok Thailand, therefore the purpose of conducting this ASEAN Community Pantry is to welcome ASEAN’s 54th anniversary,” Sumagaysay recently told Tatoli at the Embassy of the Philippines, Farol, Dili.
Sumagaysay explained that all these events were organized by the five countries: Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and Malaysia.
“The five Countries have donated food items such as rice, noodles, green beans, canned fish, milk, eggs, and others as to be distributed to the local community, also as a reward for Covid-19 and floods and Confinement afflicted in Timor Leste,” he said.
Sumagasay explained the definition of a Community Pantry as A service that provides food directly to locals people who suffer from food insecurity.
In the same place, The Charge d’ Affaires of Malaysia Embassy Nur Hidayah Mohd is grateful for the ASEAN Community Pantry since it can lighten food needs in a day or two days for local communities.
The pantry is participated by more than 200 local communities.
