FFTL concludes a-five day referee training for 21 young people in Manufahi

DILI, 10 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Football Federation (FFTL) had concluded today, a-five day referee training for 21 young people, consisting of 19 men and two women.

The referee training began on Friday (6/8) and was concluded today (10/8).

The Manufahi’s FFTL Secretary, Francisco da Costa Alarico informed that improving the capacity of the referee is crucial to improve the quality of football.

“This training is part of the FFTL’s program to organize capacity building and training for Manufahi’s referees. So that, they can referee the football games in the future professionally, as, on 28 August, we are going to begin the competition of the Manufahi’s Football Association (AFM).

Alarico said the 21 referees are new, saying, therefore, such training was important for them to learn new rules of the football games: “Nowadays, we have new rules of football. So, they need to learn these rules for the theme to be able to referee football matches professionally.”

In addition, Dolia Teresa Tilman da Costa, a young woman referee said she would use the opportunity wisely to learn the new regulations of the football matches to be a good and professional referee woman in the future.

“As you know, the majority of referees here are men, and only two of us are women. But I can say that a woman can be a professional referee. I want to call on many young girls out there to keep doing what you love. No matter what, women can do it,” said Costa.

Furthermore, Casimiro do Santos Sequeira, a young referee man said that through the training he would learn how to referee the football games in the future professionally: “To be a professional referee, we need to do our best to prevent fights between the players and being neutral for both teams.”

“I think I have learned enough rules and regulations of the football games to referee the matches in the future, in the Manufahi.” said Sequeira.
