COVID-19 update: TL records three more deaths, 117 infections

DILI, 16 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports three more deaths, 117 new cases, 41 recoveries, and the active cases were 2.141.

Of the new cases, 68 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 15 in Covalima, 10 in RAEOA, six each in Aileu and Liquica, five in Manufahi, three each in Ainaro, and Bobonaro, and one in Viqueque.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said of today’s cases, 67.5 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 91 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 17 cases under 20 and nine elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 54 men and 63 women.

Araujo informed that there are currently 41 Covid-19 cases admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center, with five people in intensive care, one of whom required ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 323 PCR tests, including 25 sentinel surveillance tests, 80 through contact tracing, 69 via random screening, 106 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, and 43 in quarantines.

Today, SIJK reported three deaths on the same day for the first time, in Timor-Leste.

The first deceased was a man in his 60s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 15 and transferred to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) on the same day. He had pre-existing conditions and died yesterday at around 5.30 pm local time at VCIC, due to multiple organ failures.

The other deceased was a man in his 70s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 14 and transferred to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) on the same day. He passed away yesterday, at around 7 pm local time, at VCIC, due to a thromboembolism pulmonary.

And the last deceased was a woman in his 60s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 12 and transferred to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) on the same day. He had pre-existing conditions and died today at around 5.30 am at VCIC, due to cardiopulmonary arrest.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 12.0 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 24.9, Covalima 15.4, Ermera 13.6, RAEOA 11.3, Ainaro 7.1, Aileu 6.3, Liquica 5.8, and Bobonaro 5.4.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several other municipalities.

Health authorities warned that the Delta variant may have spread to other municipalities, where cases are spiked recently.

There has been a total of 12.682 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 10.508 recoveries, active cases were 2.141 and 33 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 45.2 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 16.9 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
