DILI, 20 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s National Defense Force (F-FDTL), today, celebrates its 46th anniversary at its headquarters in Fatuhada, Dili, with the theme: “With the Spirit of FALINTIL, I am serving the nation and the people with all my heart”.
In his address, the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Lopes Guterres called on the Minister for the Affairs of National Liberation Combatants and the National Council of Combatants of National Liberation to integrate the veteran survivors into the socio-economic development of the nation.
“Today we celebrate this special day to honor our national heroes, both men, and women who sacrificed their lives for the national liberation. To all my fellow combatants, I am sending you a big hug and I would like to express my appreciation for your whole dedication to the independence of the nation,” said Guterres in his address during the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of F-FDTL’s, in Fatuhada, Dili, today.
Guterres also expressed his appreciation for the dedication of Timorese women in supporting FALINTIL during the 24 years combat against Indonesian occupation.
“On this special day, I would like to acknowledge the unconditional support of Timorese women to FALINTIL during the war against Indonesia. Apart from being a member of FALINTIL, many women were working tirelessly and putting their life at risk to keep supporting FALINTIL during the war. Therefore, the President of the Republic called on all of us to honor the work of Timorese women called ‘Buibere Hamri’ik Ukun Rasik An’.” said Guterres.
At the same place, Tenant General Lere Anan Timur called on the young generation to follow the spirit of patriotism and nationalism of the FALINTIL to lead F-FDTL.
“This year or it could be next year that we are going to be retired. And the new generation will have to assume the responsibility of leading this institution. Thus, it is important for the new generation to have a good mentality, and the spirit of nationalism and patriotism to lead F-FDTL,” Timur said.
