DILI, 24 august 2021 (TATOLI)– The Director of the Association for Vision Impairment (AHDMTL), Gaspar Afonso said The European Union (EU) wishes to support AHMDTL in the development of inclusive democracy for people with disabilities in Timor-Leste.
The wishes were informed after the Ambassador of the European Union, Andrew Jacob visited the office of AHMDTL at Manleuana last Friday (20/08).
“The EU Ambassador, Andrew Jacob wish the participation from Timorese disable in democracy event with an inclusive and accessible manner particularly in the 2022 Presidential elections and the 2023 legislative elections for such reason the EU wish to support the fund for People with Disabilities can also monitor and advocate the general elections,” said Afonso.
Afonso added that AHDMTL is planning on submitting a proposal to the EU embassy in Timor-Leste based on the request from the EU Ambassador Andrew Jacob.
“EU Ambassador Andrew Jacob asked AHMTL to submit a proposal, thus we will write a proposal to the EU Embassy in Timor-Leste,” said Afonso.
Afonso said their office is on the stage of writing the proposal therefore they have not yet decided how much funds will be requested.
“We will request the funds based on our program ‘s activities, therefore the funds will be decided together by the AHDMTL structure,” He said.
At the same time, Afonso extends his deepest gratitude to the EU Ambassador for the visits.
‘On behalf of AHMTL I would like to express my deep gratitude to Ambassador of Europe Union who had visited us,’ said.
