AHMDTL will celebrate International Literacy Day in Likisa

DILI, 06 september 2021 (TATOLI)– Director for the Association of Vision Impairment Timor Leste (AHDMTL), Gaspar Afonso said AHDMTL will celebrate Internation Literacy Day in Likisa.

According to Mr. Afonso around 38,118 people, or 3.2 percent of the population, have a disability in Timor-Leste, and of the number 25% of people with disabilities have access to education while the rests are lack education, saying, therefore, AHMDTL wish to celebrate the International Literacy Day that takes place on September 8.

“September 08 has been designated as International Literacy Day, we will celebrate it together with the local authority and local leaders in Likisa municipality,” said Alfonso told TATOLI via phone today.

“Some of AHDMTL members perform cultural attractions, dances, writing and reading competitions which will be followed by around 50 People with Disabilities in Likisa,” He said

However, Afonso said the event will not be participated by members of the Government since the country is under the Covid-19 restriction.

At the same place, he said the event will be held under the health protocol implemented by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health of Timor Leste.

This program is organizing through the support fund of $ 1,100 from the Organization of the Civil Society Education Partnership (CSEP) and the Forum Juventude Marginadu (FJM).
