DILI, 06 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Defense (MoD) submitted to the Budget Review Committee (BRC), its Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Request of US$ 100 million for the national defense.
“The US$ 100 million will cover the salaries and wages, goods and services, minor capital and infrastructure,” said Minister of Defense, Filomeno Paixão at the Ministry of Finance, in Dili, today.
He said the actual budget of the MoD’s Fiscal Year 2022 was US$40 million but said it needed more an additional US$60 million to cover the training, infrastructure development, and purchasing equipment for the Timor-Leste National Defense Force (F-FDTL).
Paixãe said regarding the training, the budget would cover the training for the new 600 members of the F-FDTL with the new equipment.
“In terms of infrastructure development, we have the Navy Base in Hera-Dili to develop, which would cost up to US$90 million,” he said.
He said F-FDTL will also purchase modern and adequate equipment, including other essential items for F-FDTL,” said Paixão.
