DILI, 14 september 2021 (TATOLI)– The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoYS) announced that face-to-face classes will remain suspended in the municipalities of Dili and Ermera until September 19.

“The suspension of the face-to-face learning process in public and private education and teaching establishments integrated with the network of public service educational, which are offered in private education including Dili and Ermera, will continue in effect until September 19, 2021,” Following the statement released from the MoEYS yesterday.

According to the order, during this period, school leaders have to ensure, as much as possible, the continuity of the learning process, through distance teaching of students at different levels and modalities of education and teaching.

The statement highlighted that the prevention measures aim to reduce the risk to public health caused by the new coronavirus, this infectious disease, and Delta variant have been registered in the capital and Ermera.

The suspension of teaching activities is intended to mitigate the risk of local transmission of Covid -19, especially of the Delta variant within educational entities.

It is recalled that the Minister of Youth Education and Sports, Armindo Maia had previously said that an analysis of the evolution of the number of cases of the new coronavirus would be necessary before the restart of classroom activities in all public and private schools.

The Minister of Health Odete Maria Freitas Belo also highlighted the need for the Ministries of Higher Education, Science and Culture (MHESC) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoYS) to ensure compliance with the prevention measures of Covid -19 of all students so that face to face classes could be resumed.

Timor -Leste currently reports 2,952 infections, active of the new coronavirus 18,715 confirmed cases, 98 deaths, and 15,665 recovers since the virus in Timor -Leste.
