Govt, Woodside review progress on Greater Sunrise project

DILI, 28 August 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste and Woodside Energy have reviewed progress in negotiations over the development of the Greater Sunrise gas fields and discussed the next steps for advancing the project.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Timor-Leste’s Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and lead interlocutor on Greater Sunrise, Agio Pereira, and Woodside Vice President Paul Sullivan at the Government Palace in Dili on Thursday.

Woodside’s country director for Timor-Leste, António dos Santos, also attended the meeting.

The discussions covered recent progress in negotiations and ongoing work on the legal, fiscal, technical and commercial frameworks needed to develop the fields.

The two sides also discussed studies for a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Timor-Leste using gas from Greater Sunrise.

They also discussed how the various components of the proposed project could be coordinated as negotiations and technical studies progress.

Pereira and Woodside representatives reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and technical work aimed at advancing the negotiations and studies required for the project.

Woodside, an Australian energy company and operator of the Sunrise Joint Venture, holds a 33.44% stake in the Greater Sunrise development consortium.

Timor-Leste’s state-owned oil and gas company TIMOR GAP holds a 56.6% stake, while Osaka Gas Australia owns about 10%.
