Aileu vaccinates over 50% population with first dose of Covid-19 vaccine

DILI, 04 october 2021 (TATOLI) – Over 50 percent of the population in Aileu municipality has been administered the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Today, I met His Excellency, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to informed that after the launching of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Aileu municipality through MAPCOMS, and now over 50 percent of the population has been vaccinated with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine,” Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Social Communication, Francisco Martins da Costa Pereira Jerónimo told reporters after meeting Prime Minister, in Dili, on monday.

Jerónimo said before the launch of the vaccination campaign, Aileu was one of the municipalities where less than 50% of the population has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine: “After I launched the vaccination campaign, Aileu hits 50% of eligible people are vaccinated with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, of which 20 percent had been fully vaccinated.”

He said communities needed advice from the government, adding authorities have to visit the communities in the villages to encourage them to get vaccinated, saying it is the only way towards a new normal.

Jerónimo added HOAX or vaccine misinformation from family members and neighbors leaving communities doubts to get vaccinated.

“During my time in Aileu, through Door-to-Door COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign, I encouraged the communities not only in the town but also in the villages to get vaccinated,” he affirmed.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 60.7 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 37.7 percent have been fully vaccinated.
