DILI, 14 october 2021 (TATOLI) – The government has committed to continue supporting the flood-affected families, following the flash flood that hit the country on april 4, 2021.

Currently, the government line ministries are working to find solutions for those communities that were severely affected by the flood.

“I have discussed with the Ministry of State Administration (MoSA) and The Secretary of State for Civil Protection (SSCP) regarding finding solutions for the flood-affected families. As far as I know, some of the disaster-affected families prefer to return to their municipalities and it is a good move. Now, we need to focus our attention on those families who left homeless and currently living at the refugee camp,” Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak made the comments at the weekly meeting at his residence, in Dili, on thursday.

Ruak said Government will find temporary places to accommodate those flood-affected families who are currently living at the refugee camp which is prone to flooding; adding permanent places for these families would be arranged by the government.

Previously, the government agreed with the SSCP plan to discuss with the flood-affected families to ensure they are living in proper and safe places that are not prone to natural disasters.

Around 135 families are still living at the refugee camp, of which 69 households had decided to return to their hometown in the municipalities.
