DILI, 15 november 2021 (TATOLI) – The National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture (MoHESC) presented the results of the scientific research programs that began in January 2021.

The presentation took place on the World Science Day for Peace and Development and the National Day of Higher Education.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture, Longuinhos dos Santos, considers World Science Day “an occasion for the promotion of peace, development and environmental conservation”.

He said the program is an important initiative to come up with new knowledge.

“We have the ambition to develop science in our country. To ensure a prosperous future, we need to promote science in society through government, universities, and research institutes. We work together to ensure technology and innovation”, said Santos in Delta Nova’s hall, in Dilin, on monday.

The President of INCT, José Cornélio Guterres, also said that the scientific investigation, which lasted six months, was carried out in the areas of the economy, agriculture and gender equality.

“Thus, some problems were identified in the agricultural aspects, such as the lack of ability of farmers to use new technologies to improve their products,” he said.

He said the importance of academic research is that the Government could use the recommendations provided by scientific researchers to implement a national policy based on research results.

The researcher of the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL), Graciano Soares Gomes said that the data collection on the increase in the production of maize and animals was needed to reinforce national development.

The Government needs to acquire agricultural technologies and improve the national curriculum, especially the use of language in learning. We also need to investigate the areas of natural sciences, namely Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology”, he stressed.

INCT would carry out research and scientific investigation, this year, in five priority areas, including economy, agriculture, social issues, food security, and climate change.

The research program took place in early January 2021, with a total of US$500.000.
