DILI, 02 december 2021 (TATOLI)—The Government of Timor-Leste has prepared appropriate burial sites and grave markers to place and honor the bodies of the fallen heroes.

Minister for National Liberation and Combatants Affairs, Julio Sarmento da Costa ‘Meta Malik’ said that the government is currently preparing burial grounds and grave markers to place the bodies of the heroes in the Timor-Leste to honor the heroes on Heroes Day and watch them cycle to completion on time.

“The rehabilitation process is ongoing in 12 municipalities. The remains of the fallen heroes will be placed in proper cemeteries after the project is completed,” Meta Malik told Tatoli in the National Parliament on Wednesday.

However, Meta Malik said, the development process was hampered by various existing situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Natural Disaster last April.

He added that in the 2021 State Budget the Ministry of National Liberation allocated $4 million for the development process in all municipalities, in addition, in the 2022 budget the Government through NCL allocated $2.3 million for the continuation of these projects.

“The rehabilitation process was delayed due to the pandemic. That’s why the construction tender was released last October until now the construction has reached 25%,” he explained.

According to Malik, until now NLC has recorded more than 14,000 remains of fallen heroes from all regions in Timor-Leste.
