DILI, 22 december 2021 (TATOLI) – Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães has informed that the Government would issue a decree-law to transform Max Stahl Audiovisual Archive Center (CAMSTL) into a public institute to better preserve Max Stahl’s legacy and ensure its sustainability in the future.
“The Council Of Ministers has had a discussion about the future of the CAMSTL when Max was sick. After the meeting, I called Max’s spouse, Ingrid Bucens, to inform her about the discussion of the Council of Ministers about CAMSTL. I also informed the former President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta about the discussion,” Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães told reporters in a press conference at the Palace of the Government, in Dili, today.
He said Timor-Leste needs to continue the legacy of Max Stahl to benefit the future generation, saying, therefore, it is important to ensure CAMSTL’s autonomy and its sustainability in the future.
“The discussion between Prime Minister Cabinet and CAMSTL is undergoing to see what types of institute both parties would need to adopt for CAMSTL. Thus, the discussion is ongoing and soon the Council of Ministers will propose a decree-law to attribute the right institute for the CAMSTL to ensure the sustainability of Max’s works and his legacy for the next generation,” he said.
Magalhães said what Bucens’ had decided to transform CAMSTL into a public institute is not different from what the government had discussed so far.
A day earlier before the internment of Max Stahl’s ashes in Santa Cruz Cemetery, Ingrid Bucens, Max’s wife had decided that Max Stahl Audiovisual Archive Center (CAMSTL) would be transformed into a Public Institute to preserve the memories of East Timor (now Timor-Leste).
“It’s East-Timor’s institution. It’s not private and it was never a private institution and even remotely to do with the family. It is always Timorese institution,” Max Stahl’s spouse, Ingrid Bucens, told TATOLI at Timor-Leste’s Archives and Museum of East Timorese Resistance, last week.
