DILI, 13 january, 2022 (TATOLI)– The Dean from the Department of Public Health, Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ), Martinus Nahak Lino said, sanitary landfill and recycling are good methods to control municipal waste disposal on land.
“Garbages must be piled up in a thin layer (up to 1 meter, or 3 feet) and compacted with heavy equipment to prevent odors and wind-blown debris, so the sanitary landfill method is an effective method to ensure a healthy environment,” Martinus Nahak Lino told Tatoli in his office, Manleuana Dili today.
Nahak explained that people who live around the waste collection sites have their lives threatened because if the environment is not healthy, it can affect their health.
“People are required to stay 500 meters away from garbage collection points to avoid disease transmission,”
In the same place, Nahak emphasizes that the sanitary landfill method also helps people make fertilizer, saying that people can use fertilizer to grow vegetables and gardening while reducing air pollution.
It is worth remembering that more than 20,000 people are living in Dili, most of whom are concerned about public health problems due to improper waste disposal.
