International Observers for 2022 Presidential Election will arrive in Timor – Leste by early February

DILI, 17 january 2022 (TATOLI)- National Director of the Technical Secretariat of Electoral Administration (STAE), Acilino Manuel Branco, said that the presidential election observer from Belgium, Brussels will arrive in Timor – Leste by early february.

“We have been informed by the European Union (EU) in Timor – Leste that a big delegation from Brussels will arrive in Timor – Leste by early february to conduct the direct observations on the Presidential Election which will be held on March 19,” Branco told Tatoli in his office, Kai-Koli, Dili today.

Branco explained that the Presidential Election will involve many observers from both national and international levels to ensure democratic and transparent elections. Therefore, STAE has announced all organizations in Timor – Leste and international to register their organizations to obtain legitimacy from STAE before conducting the observations on the presidential election on March 19, 2022.

“We have issued the announcement to the election observers and at the moment the EU in Timor – Leste has officially informed STAE that, more than 30 observers from the Brussels delegation will arrive in Timor – Leste by early February, STAE welcomes the request from the EU in Timor – Leste and is willing to work together by hoping that the election will be transparent,” said Branco.

Branco added that national and international observers will observe the process of electing the President of the 19 march of 2022 from the beginning of the voting until the end of the counting of votes to ensure an election based on values and principles of the democratic system in Timor- Leste.
