CNE will organize the Presidential Election debate

DILI, 04 february 2022 (TATOLI)-The President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), José Belo, informed that CNE will organize a Presidential Election debate to invite all Presidential candidates to debate the vision and mission before conducting the Presidential elections which will be held on 19 March 2022.

“The presidential debate will be held in the short term after the official nomination for President is announced by the High Court,” Belo told Tatoli at the CNE’s office Kai-Koli, Dili, today.

Belo explained, the presidential candidate debate must be conducted to explain the vision and mission to the public in order that the public can assess and select qualified candidates to ensure the democratization process in Timor-Leste.

CNE will coordinate with academics and related parties to conduct the presidential candidate debate, hoping that the presidential candidate debate will present a good program through the vision and mission before the Presidential election takes place.

“We wish elections which are transparent based on the norms of democracy in Timor – Leste, with presidential debates, the voters will accompany them on live television and then to choose a quality President in accordance with the  voters ‘ expectation,” Belo  said.
