CAC urges the Institutional Officials to report the wealth to prevent the corruption

DILI, 22 february 2022 (TATOLI)- Commission of Anti-Corruption (CAC) urges the Institutional officials to report all assets owned to CAC to prevent the case of corruption in Timor–Leste.

The Commissioner of CAC Sergio Hornai, informed that based on Regulation No. 7/2020/ 26 august, regarding the prevention and combating of corruption as a judicial regime that is very strategic on combat of corruption and also crime with a financial economic character in Timor – Leste.

“The purpose of reporting the wealth of institutional officials is to protect and identify the integrity of public servants as state services and as the integrity of public institutions, to limit the risk of corruption and avoid conflict of interest, to detect significant and unjustified wealth additions, to promote a free work environment, from corrupt practices and blocking the way to the  opportunities and risks of corruption,” CAC Commissioner Sergio Hornai told TATOLI, at the socialization of the Declaration of Wealth Income at the National Election Commission (CNE) office, Colmera Dili today.

The CAC Commissioner, explained that the reported assets such as, Cars, land, houses, salaries and other assets must be reported when serving as institutional officials such as, the President of the Republic, Prime Ministers, Ministers, General Directors, heads of departments must fill out the form which is prepared by the CAC together with the General Prosecutor of Timor – Leste.

“For Institutional Officials who do not want to collaborate to register their wealth will be penalized according to the article 48 and will cut 25% salary deduction and officials who do not want to declare the actual wealth will be subject to penalize under article 52 and must fine $ 1,500.00,” Commissioner of CAC Hornai added.

At the same place, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Magalhães appealed to all State Institutional Officials to collaborate with CAC in filling out the form which is prepared by the CAC.

“Let us implement the Regulation No. 7/200/ 26 august to combat the corruption and implement the facts through the verification to prevent the corruption to develop Timor – Leste,” Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Magalhães added.
